Kraig Kinser Rolling Through the World of Outlaws Season

2005 Knoxville Nationals winner, Kraig Kinser, driving the Steve Kinser Racing #11K, has amassed five top-ten finishes thus far on the 2010 World of Outlaws (WoO) season and has qualified in the top ten six times during the young season’s first twelve events. Driving the Gerkin-Kinser Racing Engines-powered Maxim Chassis machine, Kraig will return to the half-mile Jackson Speedway in Jackson, Minnesota this weekend for the first time since 2005.
After having spent the last several seasons driving for other car owners and in other series, Kraig is very happy to be “back home” in the white family-owned 11K and is feeling more and more comfortable with his rookie crew chief and future brother-in-law, Mike Kuemper.

“It’s definitely a comfortable situation for me now, with Mikey and (sister) Stevie working on the cars, along with our newest crew member, Joe McCarthy,” said the youngest of the racing Kinsers. “We’ve struggled a bit lately, but I know that going forward this year, things will get better and we will only get stronger the more races we have together.”

The Bloomington, Indiana native, now living in North Carolina has been traveling back and forth to the Steve Kinser Racing shop and to the races, all from his home base in N.C.

“It adds a bit to the situation, traveling back and forth, but really, I’ve been living down there (N.C.) for long enough that it’s second nature to me and I really don’t mind the traveling.” Knowing he has a long season ahead of him, Kraig has really started to settle into a routine with traveling. “The early part of the season is pretty simple – we don’t have that many races, but as we get deeper and deeper into the Outlaw season, I’ll spend less time and home and much more time on the road or in Bloomington.”

Currently, Kraig sits in seventh place in the WoO points, a mere 139 points behind his father and 169 points behind the leader, realizing that in the overall concept of the season, that difference isn’t all that great.

Heading to Jackson this weekend, and then home again for a two day event at Eldora Speedway over Mother’s Day weekend, Kraig is definitely looking forward to coming home to race at the Rossburg, Ohio speedplant. He’s had some great races there and when you know a track like the Kinsers know Eldora, it adds to the comfort level inside of the cockpit. Kraig has raced at Jackson twice now, with his first finish being a second place run to his father, who made a late-race pass on Kraig to take the win.

“It’s been a while since I’ve ran at Jackson, but I’m looking forward to the race there this weekend as we have had a couple of weeks off because of the rainout (at Haubstadt, Indiana), so it’s time to get back in the car again.
